It was a global luxury affair in France when Nobility for Ability Charity Polo Cup 2018 made its international debut with a successful experiential event in June 2018. Organised by Piya Bajwa for a good cause, leading polo players from India and France played at the prestigious Chantilly Polo Club. The do was attended by an elite group of people from both the countries. BornofWeb.com was the digital partner of the three-day event that encapsulated a polo match, curated city tours, formal and informal dinners, champagne lunches and a Khadi-based fashion show.

INTRODUCTION TO THE POLO CLUB!

It was a breathtaking sight with beautifully done-up green fields, good-looking horses strutting around royally while their owners showed off equestrian skills. Private vehicles would halt in respect until horses cleared space while moving from one field to the other. The grounds of the club have been painstakingly carved at the countryside surrounding Paris. This region of Chantilly also boasts of several stables, a horse museum and a chateau. The Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly is an exclusive joint for members associated with the club. The place has also hosted several international championships over the years.

WELCOME DINNER

The event in Paris was also an opportunity to make new friends. I was bewitched by the French hospitality offered at an old mansion of a sweet couple, Marie Victoire de Pontalba and her husband Alberic de Coulange, at La Victorire in Senlis. Alberic happened to be the Vice President of Federation Francaise De Polo and his love for horses and animals is well demonstrated on the walls of his house. Not to forget, their children, Tancrede Viguie-Desplaces and Sixtine Desplaces, are uber-fun and social. Can I also say Hello to Alberic Prieur and Theophile Hgw Gontharet… two amazing boys who have promised to discover Indian cinema during our dinner conversations 🙂

The event kicked off with a charity lunch followed by an exhibition of pashmina and shawls by Ahujasons. It was attended by the who’s who of the French business captains and social elites. The early evening turned sporty with the friendly polo game between the Indian team and the Club members. The Indian contingent was led by Jaipur royal Padmanabh Singh, players Ransher Singh and Simran Singh Shergill. Good attempt boys!

The initiative was taken to raise funds for the cause of empowering women and the differently abled in India with the help of NGOs ‘For Ability India’ and ‘Princess Diya Kumari Foundation’. “It’s great to be able to raise global awareness about our causes which we are supporting back home. The PDKF has been trying to empower women by helping them hone their skills and market their creations at competitive prices. We are able to bring attention to lesser privileged people through such events that unite people from classes,” Diya Kumari told BornofWeb.

FASHION SHOW

The global capital of fashion, Paris, was awestruck with the beauty and charisma of Indian handwoven fabric, Khadi, presented by couturier Charu Parashar. French models, dignitaries and female polo players of the Chantilly Polo Club sashayed down the ramp in Parashar’s creations. Overall, 22 pieces were showcased in Khadi silk. “We took three months to put together this collection. The idea was to challenge fashionistas’ inhibitions about the fabric. Our handcrafted clothes have global appeal and they can be chosen for a variety of occasions,” says Charu Parashar.

AN EVENING IN PARIS

What is Paris without long walks, beers and a Lido experience? Atout France, the official France Tourism Development Agency in India, curated a spectacular evening for the Indian delegation to close the event in the most befitting manner. We were invited to attend Lido, a famous Paris cabaret and burlesque show. Boys and girls took us on a dazzling ride as they performed sensuous acrobatics in a high-tech set-up, unfurling a story of Parisian culture. French cuisine and wines overflowed as we raised a toast to the successful culmination of the luxe event.
