Ritu Beri

The Luxury Symposium 2018, organised by ace designer Ritu Beri, brought together industry champions under one roof to stage brand India vis-à-vis luxury. BornofWeb.com was exclusive blog partner for the event’s special exposition, The Showcase. The exhibition displayed some of India’s rising brands that are not only showcasing country’s luxe prowess but also boosting artisans’ work at the ground level. Award-winning artists, Khadi activists and weavers were also present to give live demonstration of their skills.

LUXE INTERIORS BY SERENE HOME
Priya Kakar Kapur
of Serene Home was the head-turner at The Showcase. Like a vision in a sari herself, the lady decked out the expo hall as well as some canopies of other brands in an artistic manner. Her brand is over a decade old and has done interiors for many posh paradises.

SKIN JEWELS BY MARBELLA PARIS
France-based Marbella Paris introduced some skin jewellery to the Indian guests. Their sparkling jewels, which can be temporary worn over the body, had many takers.

SILVER RUSH!
Kalyani Saha Chawla’s Rezon Luxury Silverware showcased a plethora of gift items. As several cabinet ministers and bureaucrats thronged the venue, she hoped her items would soon be presented as gifts to national guests.

Participants and partners of The Showcase were also honoured by India’s Minister for External Affairs, Ms Sushma Swaraj. BornofWeb.com, the official blog partner for the event, was represented by founder Karan Bhardwaj.

The whole-day symposium saw participation from several Indian and Italian brands. Italy, being the country partner, also presented its Michelin starred chef Carlo Cracco. The masterchef organised a masterclass for an exclusive gathering, which was also attended by Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

INAUGURATION BY MS SUSHMA SWARAJ

During the inauguration, Ritu Beri, founder, The Luxury League, said luxury is the most misunderstood word in India. She said it is considered opposite of poverty when in reality, luxury is all about India’s craftsmanship and artisans’ skills. “Khadi is luxury,” she said while drawing applause. However, leaving the audience in splits, Ms Sushma Swaraj, recalled how she told off Beri after the designer wanted her to lend support to the ‘luxe’ event. “For us, luxury is confined to some expensive brands. However, after I met this event’s participants and understood what they stand for, I realised that The Luxury League is talking about India’s true treasure of art and heritage. I was wrong, and Ritu was right,” said Swaraj in her address.
