It was a special moment for veteran designer Madhu Jain when she launched her latest work, ‘Bamboo-Silk Ikat’, which is said to be a pioneer initiative in the world of textiles and sustainable fashion. The launch event had the designer’s close friends in attendance. Politician Maneka Gandhi, FDCI President Sunil Sethi, designers Raghavendra Rathore, Poonam Bhagat and Kavita Bhartia, Prathibha Prahlad and others were seen discussing the designer’s legacy of close to 30 years.

I’ve worked for 15 long years along with my master weavers in perfecting the bamboo-silk Ikat, and it is only now that I feel my persistence has finally paid off. I love the fact that this new textile does not eat into the earth’s meagre resources; rather, with bamboo being so plentiful in India, we can provide livelihood options for bamboo growers. The silver lining is that bamboo is biodegradable, so this fabric will leave a very negligible ecological footprint. It truly is a fabric of the future,” said Madhu Jain on her new line.

Maneka Gandhi, a regular at Madhu’s show, said it was “indeed special when after years of patience and perseverance a new textile is born.” “I think it is commendable that Madhu has added the richness of Ikat to silk bamboo and given this bio degradable, eco-friendly textile a new lease of life,” she said.

Sunil Sethi and Neelam Pratap Rudy were also seen exchanging pleasantries. Check out Born of Web‘s exclusive video:
