WHAT: A girl threw her bra at Enrique Iglesias during his performance in Colombo on December 20. The video went viral and got massive reaction from the pop star’s fans across the globe. But it irked the Sri Lankan President a bit too much.

CONTROVERSY: The Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena, is fuming over the incident, accusing the performer and the organisers of polluting the culture. He was shocked that women threw their bras and tried to kiss the singer. He got so mad over it that he said that the promoters of the concert show be beaten with “poisonous stingray tails.” “This is most uncivilised behaviour that goes against our culture,” President Sirisena said publicly.  “I don’t advocate that these uncivilised women who removed their brassieres should be beaten with poisonous stingray tails, but those who organised such an event should be,” he said.

CRICKET ANGLE: Now the fact of the matter is that the concert was produced by a company called Live Events, and it is owned by Sri Lankan cricket legends, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.

OUR TAKE: India is not unique. Bizarre statements by politicians come from every state and continent. Fans do crazy acts to attract attention of their stars. If a star can remove his tee to entertain the audience, what’s the problem if the audience, which has common passion at the moment, reciprocate the act? As far as security is concerned, it is the duty of the organisers to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the show.
