What do Antar-Agni by Ujjawal Dubey, Divyam Mehta and Rohit Kamra hold for menswear show at AIFW? By Team Born of Web
Some five years years ago, when Van Heusen discarded sponsorship for FDCI’s India Men’s Week, it broke a million hearts. Result: the men’s week never returned. However, in its run of three years, the men’s exclusive fashion event had galvanised a lot of stakeholders in menswear. Its unfortunate demise was tragic, but full of learnings. From market shortcomings to lacklustre response of the brands, loopholes in the menswear segment popped out prominently.
Five years later, the Fashion Design Council of India is taking a second chance to put men’s fashion in motion. A first step has been announced with a dedicated menswear show at the forthcoming edition of Amazon India Fashion Week. “This is just the beginning. In the coming editions, you will only see focus on men grow by leaps and bounds,” Sunil Sethi, president, FDCI, told Born of Web.

For the show, Antar Agni by Ujjawal Dubey, Divyam Mehta and Rohit Kamra will present their designs on the fourth day (March 19) of the AIFWAW16 at the venue of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Each designer will interpret themes in his own unique way. Antar Agni’s Autumn-Winter collection titled The Red in Us explores varied emotions that red exudes. Red is extreme, a stimulator, heavy, intense and a stirrer. The collection aims at the controlled use of oxidised red as an extreme element, paired with fabrics with character, acting as a vent for the persistent human neutral state.
Into the Woods, a collection by Divyam Mehta, draws inspiration from trees and textures bringing out a feeling of freedom, intensity and blissfulness, harmoniously blending into laboriously executed Shibori patterns.
Interestingly, Rohit Kamra’s collection will redefine the royal look by modernising it through sharply tailored bandhgalas and breeches. Made in Jaypore will see a huge Jaypore influence seeping into the ensembles.
