“I am convinced that nothing should be removed from these slurs, from these words which belong to antisemitism that we’d rather forget. From now on, in the name of our universal principles, these abominable words will become part of my work, they will overlay it and stigmatise it”

Eminent British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor’s controversial artwork Dirty Corner has been vandalised in the safety grounds of the Palace of Versailles in France, where it has been stationed on display for some time now.
The sculpture, which the artist described as a ‘queen’s vagina’, has been painted with antisemitic graffiti, reading phrases like “the second rape of the nation by deviant Jewish activism”, “Christ is king in Versailles” and “Queen sacrificed, twice insulted”.
Dirty Corner has been attacked for the second time this year. While the graffiti was cleaned off last time, the artist has decided to highlight vandalism this time and hence, the artwork won’t be repaired.
According to Le Figaro, as translated by the Guardian, Kapoor has said, “I had already questioned the wisdom of cleaning it after the first vandalism. This time, I am convinced that nothing should be removed from these slurs, from these words which belong to antisemitism that we’d rather forget. From now on, in the name of our universal principles, these abominable words will become part of my work, they will overlay it and stigmatise it.”
Dirty Corner is 80 m long (200 ft) and 10 m (33 ft) high depicting a funnel in the form of an orifice. The high steel-and-rock abstract sculpture has also been dubbed as ‘sexist’.
