Censorship defeated!

Udta Punjab
Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab

The Bombay High Court has cleared all obstructions in the release of Udta Punjab with just one cut, reports say. The court also has directed the Central Board of Film Certification to issue a fresh “A” certificate to the producers within 48 hours. For a week, Born of Web has been campaigning against proposed censorship on the film. We posted several exclusive leads which were followed by almost all media houses in India. Our report on the exclusive screening of Udta Punjab for Shyam Benegal was picked up news agencies, dailies and news channels. Benegal’s opinion vouched for the movie’s credibility and why it is important to release sans cuts.

In our exclusive interview, which also happened to be the first to any publication, ex-Censor Board Chief Leela Samson reminded the CBFC its role to certify and not censor the movies. We are excited to share that Udta Punjab will be releasing on its scheduled date this Friday. Whether or not the film is impressive does not matter as long as it is reaching cinema halls. Take a BOW!
