Designer Manish Arora, well-known for prominently positioning Indian fashion across the world, has been honoured with France’s biggest award, Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur. The ceremony took place at the French Embassy recently. The Chevalier de la légion d’Honneur is France’s premiere award to recognise eminent accomplishments of service to France. The award, being the highest distinction in France, is bestowed on both citizens of France as well as foreigners.
In the past, eminent personalities such as Pandit Ravi Shankar, Amitabh Bachchan and JRD Tata have been honoured with this prestigious distinction.
“Only the French can do this. They spot you and say ‘you deserve this’,” he quipped while receiving the honour at the hands of ambassador Francois Richier.
Manish Arora, a graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, launched his own label in 1997. In 2011, he became the creative director of French fashion house Paco Rabanne. His creations have been flaunted by global icons including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj.
Manish has also requested the Indian government to acknowledge fashion as a serious business and encourage experts to take part in government policies related to Indian fashion and textiles. Read the full story here.
