Rome wasn’t an instant creation, so was not Milind Soman’s transformation into the Ironman. The model cum athlete took several years of intensive training and rigorous beating before conquering impossible fitness challenges. At 50, he is damn sexy! He has now revealed secrets of his fitness in an article in Huffpost. We share what you can learn from him.

SWIMMING IS MIRACULOUS
Milind Soman shares he used to swim for 3-5 hours at least 5 days a week. His family, especially mother, was very supportive of him. He started swimming at the age of 10 and continued its practice till he was 23. Swimming exercises and strengthens all your body muscles besides boosting your stamina tremendously. Now you don’t have to donate 5 hours every day, but an hour-long session at least 3-4 days a week could be more than sufficient.

RUN RUN RUN
Milind Soman always wanted to run a marathon. He did participate in first Mumbai marathon in 2004 after training for around three months. He ran a half marathon but got addicted to running. He took five years to graduate to full marathon of 42 kms in 2009. The bottomline is that you have to be patient with your body. Your body is your best guide and it can tell you if you are stagnant or improving. Go slow and keep small targets. There will be a day when you will know how far you have come and how far you can go.

EAT RIGHT
As they say, your body is what you eat. Milind Soman doesn’t diet but avoids refined sugar. He calls it ‘poison’. He also guards his intake of non-veg stuff but loves ghee and butter. So you don’t have to starve yourself but remember, everything comes at a price. So you better train hard after gorging on meals. Sundays could be a great cheat day.  As Milind Soman puts it, “Endurance sport teaches us one thing–that if you work at something you love, patiently, consistently and with focus, not only will you get where you want to get, but every moment you will be where you want to be.”
