Greta Bradman

Greta Bradman came to India as the granddaughter of cricket legend Sir Don Bradman but returned shining as the talented soprano voice! Take a BOW

Greta Bradman with maestro Zubin Mehta

One of the reasons why soprano Greta Bradman’s concert with Zubin Mehta and Australian World Orchestra had become the talk of the town was her famous surname. She is the granddaughter of cricket legend Sir Don Bradman, who commands as much respect in Australia as in India. But honestly, when the beautiful lady came out on stage in her floor-sweeping red gown among the host of men in black suits ready to fiddle with their instruments, she took me by surprise with her instant resemblance to Notting Hill star Julia Roberts. You may find this observation a little weird but that’s how I could see her. She poised me with her beauty, feminine warmth and humility.

However, when the Australian soprano started her act, it shattered all my notions. Her strong vocals struck a chord with me and I could discover, the real Greta, who’s so passionate about her music. I barely understand symphonies or operas, though always regale music, but her jugalbandi with  Zubin Mehta was quite alluring. Earlier in the press conference Mehta had said that she would be everywhere in sometime, courtesy her talent. I would say she had already won a million hearts that evening.

Before her performance, the Australian High Commission had organised a press talk for a few selective journalists. I had arrived before time and found Greta strolling near the area. “Hi, I’m Greta,” she introduced herself shaking hands with me. I couldn’t stop gawking at her. She spoke a lot on her upbringing, popular surname and music training. “My mother told me I could sing even before I could speak,” she said in her infectious smile. I couldn’t agree with her more. She was the rockstar of the evening where diplomats, politicians, fashion designers, authors and musicians had gathered. Come back soon Greta, as you had promised. My interview is still pending!

During the concert, I could capture a small video where she is seen teasing the maestro. Enjoy!
