“What’s trend? Who sets it? Do we have any authority on it? I design for myself. If I love what I wear. I put it on display”
— MALINI RAMANI
Trends may come and go, but every designer has a say in it. At the fashion week, while experts are busy chalking out trends for the next spring summer, there’s one vivacious lady who defies what they all say. That’s Goa-based designer Malini Ramani. According to her, trends do not exist. “What’s trend? Who sets it? Do we have any authority on it?” she said, shocking trend pundits post her show.
Her packed show, thanks to the energy that she brings on the ramp, also didn’t follow any set pattern. She brought everything that you would want to have in your wardrobe. Tie and dye saris to sequinned swimwear, shimmering tunics to gowns and track suits, she added oomph to your summer days. Not to miss her trademark elements like leheriya, mirror work, tie and dye and a dash of sparkles. “I design for myself. If I love what I wear. I put it on display,” she said adding that she has gone cost-effective and easy this time. Her pieces start from Rs 12,000 and go up to Rs 35,000.
A dash of embellishment with delicate threadwork, chikankari, sequins didn’t go over the top. Super like!
