The new venue of the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016 is like a popular Western street, where fashion, art, food, business and communication blend aesthetically
You know it’s time to move on from one place when shackles of monotony start seizing your imagination or stop giving you goosebumps. The Fashion Design Council of India perhaps sensed that lacklustre shadow that had begun to cover tombs at the Pragati Maidan, a long-time habitat of the Amazon India Fashion Week. So they introduced the Spring-Summer 2016 season at a new venue in Okhla, NSIC Grounds. The distance and inconvenience in travel obviously gave us a nervous breakdown at first, but trust us, it’s all worth it.

The amazing set up is a heady concoction of glamour, fashion, gourmet and of course, business. Nicely divided into different avenues for drinks, runway shows, stalls and B2B meetings, the place gives you a sense of freedom and openness, mandatory aesthetics of true fashion. The live performance right at the centre lightens up the mood instantly.
“We were sceptical if people would turn up or not. We thought a lot about it. But our decision proved to be the right. People are loving it,” said designer Samant Chauhan. Musical performance and sporadic seating arrangements have made the entire space visually appealing.
“The Pragati Maidan venue had a trade-oriented look. This place has added true fashion feel to the biggest fashion event in India. You have space for every aspect of the business. When not attending the show, one can walk around leisurely or sit in the lawn area and just imbibe aura,” said designer Gautam Gupta.
While ladies definitely find it tough to stroll around in high heels due to large space, many have opted for bellies, sneakers or flat-footwear. The long driveway from the main gates to the canopies is also causing inconvenience to the fashionistas. However, the shuttle service, wearing vintage look, is itself an experience!
PS: When not attending the shows, fashionistas are gazing at amazing photographs of Prabuddha Dasgupta, being displayed at an exhibition area.
