Nida Mahmood’s Junglee Billee is dedicated to her own cat, Toffee Tinkerbell
The free-spirited damsels of the 60s flared up once again as Nida Mahmood presented her sports luxe collection Junglee Billee at the fashion week. The peppy designer dedicated her Spring Summer line to her cat Toffee Tinkerbell and also poked catfight theme in the background music.
Those who were expecting drama were pleasantly surprised to see Nida’s show ‘calmer’ this time. “The clothes were easy and flowy. I didn’t want to go crazy without a reason,” she said. But, yes the music had dramatic dialogues like In Kutte Ke Saamne Mat Naachna. Nida’s fondness for classic Bollywood is pretty known. But we missed her cat on the runway, who couldn’t make it to the stage due to bright lights and loud set-up.
Silhouettes:
Silhouettes are inspired by the boxy fluid characteristics of Art Nouveau style of art.
Prints:
Prints create the most important aspect of the collection not just owing to the value of the visual impact but from the core of the concept.
These have been developed keeping in mind the strong yet fluid nature of Art Nouveau. Very much like the strong-minded women who are the inspiration, the prints have the gentleness of the essence of being a woman but at the same time the strong mindedness of a strong willed individual. These prints represent a strong direction while being delicate and gentle in appearance.
Subtle yet with a strong language, the prints and colours work hand in hand to create the collection.
Techniques:
Main techniques being printing and patchwork, this collection plays with transparency and opacity as a strong design language. Play of colours, textures and prints is key to the collection.
Colour story:
Colours are in a soft colour palette. Ranging from soft blues to lemons to pale oranges. Shades of greens to soft pinks, peaches and nude, the colour palette is a plethora of shades of colours that I have not used before.
Fabrics:
Print friendly fabrics like georgettes, crepes and neo-prene have been used extensively. Also used satin twill, heavy gauge four way stretch net and silk satin.
