Ridhi Dogra falls in love with another woman, played by Monica Dogra, in her latest show The Married Woman. She spoke to Karan Bhardwaj about censorship for OTT platforms, future projects and more

Actor Ridhi Dogra, who latest show The Married Woman is streaming on ALTBalaji, has applauded the guidelines proposed by the government to regulate OTT platforms. While speaking to Bornofweb.com on the sidelines of the screening of her show in Delhi, she said the government has proposed self-censorship for OTTs and ‘that’s great’! “It gives the ultimate choice to the audience whether or not they want to watch the content. They have classified content as per the age group. This will give clarity to the audience. Aise naho hogaare mujhe to pata nahi tha ye kya hai… (I didn’t know what the content was all about),” she told us.

Dogra shot to fame with shows like Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak?, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi and Nach Baliye 6. Her latest, The Married Woman, shows her falling in love with another woman, played by actor-singer Monica Dogra. The series is based on Manju Kapur’s novel of the same name. On why she took up the show, she said, “I always do different, challenging work. I don’t like to repeat myself.” The Married Woman was shot in October after the lockdown was over. “So whatever talent I had locked up for months, I invested in the show,” she said.

Even though the Supreme Court scrapped controversial Section 377 in 2018, the struggle on ‘same-sex marriage’ continues in India. The Central government has recently stated the concept of same-sex marriages in not comparable with Indian family unit. This has invited criticism from the LGBT community. As The Married Woman highlights romantic awakening between two women, Dogra said no force could separate lovers. “I do feel people should be allowed to love. Love is love… Who are we to decide…? I don’t understand what is greater than humanity. Jo log ek doosre ko pyar karte haivo tareeka dhund lenge ek saath aane ka (Those who are in love will anyway come together). No rule can stop them. They will find a way to be together even if they are not together,” she said.

Dogra revealed she would be seen next in Asura 2. “The shooting will kick off next month. Then, there’s something else. I am now going to act as much as possible,” she said before signing off.
