So we all love to let our hair down at the sexy beaches in Goa. A bottle of beer rescues us like our best buddy while those popular shacks close to the beaches become our temporary shelter. Who doesn’t like to lie there for hours on sand, no matter it is 2pm or 3am. But what if you find an unwanted companionship of a crocodile on the beach? Yes, this is called a nightmare come alive. Something like this was experienced by Goan resident Nilesh Bagkar, who while taking a morning stroll, found a full-grown crocodile heading back into the sea at the Morjim beach. Bagkar is a Morjim resident and clicked the predator’s walk on the beach with some dogs in the background. The photos have gone viral and posed some serious concerns for the revellers who throng Goan beaches, primarily to have fun.
The Goa forest department has confirmed the sighting of a crocodile today. “It is not from the sea. It must have come from the Chapora river, which flows into the sea at Morjim. It must have been chased by the dogs and that is why it ended there,” Deputy conservator of forests DNF Carvalho has said, as quoted in various news websites.
But the larger question is what the state is doing to protect domestic and international tourists from sea predators? Are Goan beaches not safe anymore? Goa, for years, have been a tourist attraction and known for water sports. But with a crocodile in water, who would like to dive into streams and face that adventure?
