As expected, the VIP preview of India Art Fair 2017 was attended by the who’s who of the city and the world of art. There were many serious art collectors, museum owners, critics and painters who were excited to be a part of India’s biggest art extravaganza. But there was one legendary painter who was slightly disappointed at finding his own artwork on display at the venue. We bumped into painter Jatin Das, also father of actor and film-maker Nandita Das, who expressed his regret at being ‘sold’ at a market fair. “Somebody told me they have curated some of my works here. I don’t know why. I don’t want to be sold here,” he lamented before turning to a group of women, who were desperately waiting for him to click pictures. When prodded further, he added, “I don’t want to show my works at a bazaar like this. I would rather do a show in a gallery and work there,” he said. Later, he obliged to his female friends and proceeded to the VIP lounge for cocktails. Interesting!
