Imtiaz Ali’s movies are generally complex and they offer a multitude of perspectives that seek inspiration from the film-maker’s personal experiences. However, Imtiaz Ali’s next will be simpler in terms of narration as compared to his previous movies like Tamasha and Rockstar. The film-mkaer told Born of Web that he is working on a script which is going to be ‘lighter’ than his other movies. “I will only be able to talk about it once it is finalised,” he said. But he cleared that Ranbir Kapoor is not going to feature in his next. “Ranbir is my favourite actor because he doesn’t fake to make you believe anything. He’s not in my next film. I haven’t thought about the cast yet,” he said.

Imtiaz is unfazed by mixed response to his cinema. According to him, people were expecting a regular love story from Tamasha which they didn’t get. “What happens is that sometimes when you don’t get what you are expecting, you say that you didn’t understand the outcome. Those who complained about Tamasha didn’t enjoy much because they were not expecting what we showed in the film. There was nothing that people couldn’t understand. People thought Tamasha would be light, but it was heavy. It was meaningful and not a regular love story. People will take time to understand it,” he told us. Are you going to make any safe romcom for the audience? “No! I make stories that come to my mind and heart. That’s the best way of doing it. But the next story that I’m working on is much simpler,” he said.
