In a first, the duration of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2017 will be trimmed by a day! We have got more details of the fashion week
Scheduled to begin on March 15, Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter’17 is already creating a bustle. From a four-day spectacle to an opulent opening show, as FDCI is inching closer to the fashion week, umpteen revelations of a few firsts have been made.
The usual five-day affair, AIFW has been reduced to four days. Deliberations around the same have put a finger on various factors including demonetisation. However, FDCI chief Sunil Sethi dismissed any such speculations. “The reason is that all our buyers come from outside and most of them want to start their day from Monday from their respective places — whether it is from Dubai, New York, London or Mumbai. So, the board members (of FDCI) and designers felt that Sunday is not the best day to conduct business-to-business activities as most of the buyers go back. We are in the business of fashion, after all,” he was quoted as saying.
The fifth day, that usually features the grand finale of the fashion week, will now see a ‘Pearl Portfolio’ which would include four to five shows of Pearl Academy. “We have no drop at all in terms of number of stalls or the number of the people who want to do shows with us. There is no drop at all. Also, there have been no hiccups as far as FDCI and AIFW is concerned. We are going with same strength,” Sunil Sethi further confirmed.
Keeping with the tradition of promoting crafts, the first day at AIFW will be dedicated to handloom, showcasing indigenous textiles of India and promoting the work of anonymous weavers of the country. The 29th edition of the fashion week will kickstart with 13 designers presenting their collections in the opening show. These include AKAARO, Antar-Agni, eka, Neeru Kumar, péro, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rohit Bal, Sanjay Garg, Suket Dhir, Urvashi Kaur, 11.11 / eleven eleven along with Good Earth -Nicobar.
We have already told about ‘Honor Show’ at the fashion week. The smartphone brand has run a campaign to hunt for fresh models for their exclusive runway show.
