Tanmay Bhat’s graceless spoof on legends Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar let a billion of their fans fuming. The national outrage even let political parties gain some mileage which filed several police complaints against the comedian. However, the nightingale of India, who remained unfazed by the controversy, is slightly upset about one thing in the entire episode. She is not happy to be the reason of a national outrage.
In her chat with journalist Subhash K Jha, she mentioned, “Log bahot pareshan ho gaye. Mujhe yeh bura laga. (People have got terribly upset. I didn’t like it) I don’t like the idea of people getting hassled because of me. I want to assure all my well-wishers that these (spoofs, etc) are very small matters. There are so many far far greater issues in life. We must not give undue importance to those who thrive on maligning people. I am sure they have their reasons for doing what they do.”

She reminded her fans of her immense struggle, which is far bigger than non-issues like a spoof. “Nothing affects me. I’ve been through so much, faced so many hurdles in life. At an age when other girls play with dolls I was out of the house trying to find work as a singer. I learnt from a young age that work is the only thing that matters.”
As expected, Mangeshkar has reacted in a dignified manner and has put the controversy to rest. Maybe, there is a lesson or two for comedian Tanmay Bhat in this message. As we said earlier, even Mangeshkar is a great mimic and loves to crack jokes. But what Bhat came out with on Snapchat was definitely not fun.
