A group of 20-25 people greeted the actor with slogans like “Anupam Kher Haaye Haaye”, reports Karan Bhardwaj
Anupam Kher met with a protest by a group of 20-25 people in Delhi’s Connaught Place. The actor had come to launch The Kashmir Story, a book on the history of the Valley at Niche Lounge & Bistro. People gheraoed his vehicle outside the lounge at his arrival, with slogans “Anupam Kher Haaye Haaye’.
Protesters had nothing to do with Kashmir or his opinion on exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. They were the victims of real estate company Vigneshwara Group, which was once endorsed by Anupam Kher. Protesters alleged that they had invested in the Vigneshwara Group ‘based on the promotions carried out by the actor as brand ambassador in television, radio and hoardings but were conned by the company. “As their brand ambassador and a person involved for public welfare be it Kashmir or any other common issue, we request Kher to intervene and force the owners of the group to take action as request by 1500 investors,” said a protester.

The company has allegedly duped investors of nearly Rs 260 crore over the last eight years. However, Kher mocked the protest while launching the book. He said, “When I came here, a group of people greeted me. I was taken aback when they started hooting. I have to tell you that I had endorsed Vigneshwara Group some 10 years ago. Some people want to discredit me. It won’t be surprising if media start reporting on this matter as negative news draw more TRPs.”
Later, he was overheard commenting on the protest in a casual chat with Rahul Shivshankar, Editor-in-chief of News X, saying, “It’s funny.” After the programme was over, the cops managed to flee Kher from the emergency exit.
