It’s no cakewalk for an outsider to create identity in Bollywood without ‘godfather’. Ask Ankit Tiwari, who faced a lot of rejections and even struggled for over six years before turning into an ‘overnight sensation’. The vocalist from Kanpur, who has been in Mumbai since 2007 and created some unknown compositions and jingles, shot to stardom with tracks like Sun Raha Hai Na Tu (Ashiqui) and Galiyaan. But today, he is shining like a star. After entertaining his fans with melodious compositions and his impeccable vocal skills, he has also featured in a single Badtameez opposite Sonal Chauhan, produced by T-Series.

When we congratulated him for phenomenal response to the video on YouTube, he exclaimed, “God has been kind. I never thought of facing the camera. But it seems hard work has paid off.” In the video, Tiwari has sported a rockstar look but is hurt in love. Though there are no personal references, the singer gives credit to the director Sidhant Sachdev for bringing out the actor in him. “I did a few workshops with him. Sonal too made me comfortable. I told her I will run away if they scold me,” he chuckled.

Tiwari shared that his first critic has always been his brother. “He’s very honest. He tells me frankly if he likes or dislikes any track or career move. Even he was surprised to see me in front of the camera,” he said adding that he would like to do another video if there’s any appropriate opportunity.

A music composer by heart, he has also no qualms in letting other playback singers croon his compositions. “I have to do justice to my creations. So I get the best suited voice. Like I got Arijit Singh to sing Dil Tujhe De Di (Airlift) and he did a brilliant job,” he said. Arijit’s mention got us to talk about the singer’s much-discussed tiff with Salman Khan. Requesting Khan to retain his voice in movie Sultan, Arijit posted a late night apology to the actor on Facebook but later deleted it. Tiwari spoke frankly on the issue. He said it is an old practice to replace songs and vocalists even after final recordings. “They can give you any reason for that, be it a situation’s demand or suitability to the actor. Even my song was removed from a blockbuster even after the success of Sun Raha Hai and Galiyaan,” he revealed, refusing to name the film and the film-maker.

Can you guess? :p
