In a candid chat with Divyani Raghav, TV actor Shilpa Raizada says her show continues to do well even after Hina Khan’s hyped exit
Shilpa Raizada, who’s playing a relatively younger chachi in Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is on a mission these days. She has been touring cities to find baratis for a grand wedding of the lead couple of the show. So we got hold of the actor when she came to the Capital to take auditions of common people aspiring to be a part of the show. Excerpts from the conversation:
‘I’M A FEMINIST’
Shilpa is a self-proclaimed feminist and idolises Priyanka Chopra. “I am a feminist. I idolise Priyanka Chopra because of her world views and hard work. As we know ours is a male-dominant society, it is important for us to lead the change. I get irritated by people who blame women for rapes and molestation. I think a pervert is a pervert and cannot be contained no matter we wear. Dirt is in the eyes of men, and not in a woman’s dress,” she said.
‘I AM LOOKING FOR BARATIS’
“We have come to find active baratis so that they can join us in Bikaner for the main wedding event. We are choosing common people, specially good performers. We are looking for energetic people who dance well and add more fun to the celebration.”

‘HINA KHAN’S EXIT HAS NOT AFFECTED TRPs’
The TRP of the show fell drastically after its lead actor Hina Khan quit the show. But Shilpa says the show is back on its feet. “The popularity of the serial is still the same as it was with Hina. I think it got dropped temporarily but it’s soaring again high. I feel if the story and content of the show is good, then people will get connected to it and mere change of the faces do not affect the storyline. As the story is progressing, there’s a need for fresh faces. I don’t feel there is any change in audiences’ love as they are liking Kartik, Nayra and Goenka families.”

My dress
Most bizarre thing you have ever done?
Traveled without ticket for four hours and went to some other place instead of my real destination.
Two things no one knows about you?
I am very conscious for my looks on screen. I also feel low sometimes without a reason. I am a Cancerian so its natural.
If you wake as PM one day, then what will you do first?
I will abolish unemployment as I want everyone to earn.
One thing you wish you knew before entering the industry?
That the industry needs a lot of patience.
One thing you regret the most?
I regret for being late.
